The Web 2.0 Tool I reviewed was Webspiration found at the website, http://www.mywebspiration.com . This is a program that allows a teacher or students to take a story they have read or any other assignment they would need to make an outline or a web for. I found the program very easy to use. Students need to create a login and password and are brought to a webspiration page. Once students have started creating their own webspiration, they can save it and always come back to edit when they need to. The site was very self-explanatory. Students can use a book they have been reading and create a web or an outline whichever they prefer to help them look at key points of their book. The tool gives many options for the organization of their web. Students have the ability to use word bubbles, clip art pictures, etc. to describe their stories.
I just took a children's story, The Cat in the Hat, and made a web using webspiration. I took the the main ideas that children should look for in this story while reading. I had a bubble going from the title to the author and publishing year and characters, setting, and plot. Attached to each of those I included different things from each category that were from the book. I think this is a great tool for students to organize the information they read in their books. It was very easy to create new bubbles, or clipart, the site gives you a toolbar on the side of the screen and that is where student can choose from word bubbles, text boxes and clipart. Once the object is placed on the screen it is to move it with the mouse by clicking and dragging. It is also very simple to connect different objects, students click on one of the objects then click one of the diamonds and an arrow is given. The student drags that arrow to the other object they would like to connect.
Students could also use this tool in a Language Arts classroom for students to organize their own thoughts. From outlining and creating a web that will help the students write an essay or paper for class. I would definitely recommend use of this tool in any reading or language arts classroom because it is very helpful with organizing thoughts.
